October on Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands

October brings a quieter rhythm to Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands. The air turns crisp, the trees glow with fall color, and familiar beaches and trails feel a little more peaceful. It is a beautiful month to enjoy island life.

A Quick Market Update

The latest available Northwest MLS report showed more choices for buyers across the broader region. Active listings increased 22% year over year, while inventory reached 4.21 months. Closed sales declined 7.6%, and the median sales price was down 2.3%.

Every community and property is different. Buyers may have more time to explore their options, while sellers should focus on accurate pricing, thoughtful preparation and strong presentation.

Make the Most of October

Take a colorful walk at Deception Pass State Park, explore Ebey’s Landing or bundle up for a waterfront afternoon at Washington Park.

For a seasonal outing, Arrowhead Ranch is hosting cider-pressing events on October 17, 24 and 31. Bring your apples and experience one of fall’s most satisfying traditions.

Quick Getaway: La Conner

One of the perks of living here is having so many beautiful destinations nearby. This month, take a day trip to La Conner. Stroll beside the Swinomish Channel, explore locally owned shops and galleries, and enjoy the rich colors and flavors of the Skagit Valley harvest season.

It feels like a real getaway without requiring an entire weekend of travel.

Nibbles: The Oystercatcher

For a cozy island dinner, visit The Oystercatcher in Coupeville. This chef-driven restaurant offers a highly seasonal menu inspired by ingredients from Whidbey Island and the surrounding region. Since the menu changes frequently, there is often something new to discover.

Prepare for the Wet Season

Clear gutters, inspect exterior drainage, check weather stripping and disconnect outdoor hoses. It is also a good time to replenish storm supplies and make sure exterior lighting is working properly.
